Our Holiday Corner

OCTOBER 31ST, 2021

Happy Hallowe’en everyone!

As one of our favourite times of the year, John and I always like to do something special to celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year. Since we have been together, we have never lived anywhere that was accessible to the little ghouls and goblins, so we don’t give out treats and we have had to come up with alternative ways to honour the day (and night). This year was especially difficult for us… almost as bad as last year. Even though certain restrictions have lifted and the world slowly returns to normal (whatever that was), John and I are not prepared to reinsert ourselves into the public sphere. We do our necessary shopping, maybe go for a short drive or, if we are feeling really adventurous, order take-out to eat at home. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is there are no Hallowe’en parties, no haunted walks, or even seeing the newest horror film in the theatre. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the holiday, though.

Over the summer, we moved to a new apartment that gives us a bit more freedom and space than our previous home and here, we have initiated a “Holiday Corner” which can be home to all of our festive décor needs. Some items will be constants and just slightly altered to match the holiday’s theme, while most of the items will be swapped out for more fitting decorations. We will add one or two new items each year and will be happy to share photos with all of you as the corner changes over time.

Another advantage of our new place is the quiet, walkable, neighbourhood. On our strolls through the area, we have noticed that there are quite a few more homes around that decorate, as compared to our former area. It is wonderful to see the Hallowe’en spirit is, indeed, still alive. Extending out slightly, we only need to hop in the car for a short drive to visit some of the local farms that also act as markets (“Come get your fresh pumpkins”) and gift shops (“Unique decorative items available here”).

I didn’t take a lot of photos outside of our own apartment this year but I am hoping, as we become more familiar with the area and learn where some of the more intriguing displays are located, there will be a larger collection to celebrate our holiday cheer. Who knows, maybe we will have more for you in time for Christmas… or even before.

Until then, we hope you’re enjoying a wonderful and safe Hallowe’en and please share any of your spooky or decorative pics with us here or on any of our social media homes. Honestly… we really want to see your Hallowe’en pictures.
